09.29.09Atlanta home prices up in JulyOnce again, the S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index is showing broad-based improvement in home prices across the country. The 10-city Index increased 1.7 percent in July, and the 20-city Index was up 1.6 percent. Both were down over 12 percent from July 2009, however. In Atlanta, prices increased 2.3 in July, but remained 11.8 percent below last year. 05.26.09Atlanta home prices show continued shallowingStandard & Poor's released the Chase-Shiller Home Price Indices this morning, showing that the decline in home prices in Atlanta seems to be shallowing. The data, good through March 2009, show that the metropolitan Atlanta area experienced a 1.7 percent drop in home prices versus February. February's drop was 2.5 percent versus January. And January's decline was 3.2 percent from December 2008. Still, Atlanta's home prices show a year-to-year decline of 15.7 percent. While three months of smaller declines is a positive sign for the city, home prices nationwide are still experiencing significant downward pressure. 02.25.09Real Estate RoundupThe National Association of Realtors released today their monthly survey of existing-home sales. The total number of homes sold dropped 5.3 percent nationwide in January to lows not seen since 1997. The total year-over-year fall was 8.6 percent. In the South, sales dropped 5.7 percent for the month and 15.9 percent below last year. The median price of an existing home also dropped 7.4 percent from last year to $152,100. Also, S&P released the latest Case-Shiller numbers yesterday, and they showed continuing declines in home values. 01.27.09Case-Shiller: Home prices in freefallThe S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index has once again fallen to record lows, with the both the 10- and 20-city indexes dropping 2.2 percent in November. That represents year-over-year drops of 19.1 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively - both new record declines. 09.30.08Record plunge in July home pricesThe Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller index, released today, showed home prices dropping by a record amount in July, although the pace of monthly declines seems to be slowing. The 20-city index fell 0.9 percent in July and is down 16.3 percent from last year. That’s the largest drop in the index since it began in 2000. The 10-city fared no better, with prices dropping 1.1 percent from June and 17.5 percent since July 2007, which is the biggest decline in the 21-year history of the index. 08.26.08Home prices continue declineHome prices across the country have fallen to record lows, according to the latest report of the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index – and there are few signs that the declines are slowing down. The 10-city index fell 0.6 percent in June while the 20-city index fell 0.5 percent. The year-over-year declines in home prices were 17.0 percent for the 10-city index and 15.9 percent for the 20. In the 22nd straight month of declining home values, the 20-city index slipped 0.9 percent to a new record year-over-year low of 15.8 percent.
